I vaguely remember this show on doordarshan. I can't recollect anything much about it though. But words have always fascinated me. Reader's digest was one of my favorites in school days, mainly for that section.
Looking for something, I came across this website - http://www.word-detective.com. Interesting site!
Then there is http://www.wordorigins.org/ that is similar, with interesting anecdotes about word origins.
The mother lode seems to be here, although not spiced up like the other two.
While you are at it, check out this one, about words that originated in India.

Yes! Wasnt this the show Siddharth Basu started off with? Or am I confusing that with Bournvita Quiz. It also had a tall lady with bob-cut??(as it used to be referred to ;)- Sabira Merchant???

Sabira Merchant, yes. I can't remember what the show was about. Do you? Basu came much later - I was in high school then and totally crazy about that show.
If my memory serves me right, I thought it was guessing a word by clues which lead to the word- like clues for the word "saw" would be "tool" "cut" and "wood" without actually giving it away.
There were some rounds of antonyms I think.
Hm either that or I have completely lost it and making this all up :D.
In which case, we could probably make up our own "Whats the good word", what say ;)
Yes, I REMEMBER VERY WELL. iT WAS A WONDERFUL GAME OF GUESSING THE RIGHT WORD WITH 3 CLUES. It is worth starting a game likt that again. It will be a hit plus help children improve their language.
